Marjorie Rivers knits for the Izzy Doll program run by RCL Branch 39. She has
already contributed 3 times over the last year and we would like to recognize her for
her amazing contribution to this effort. Others in the community have also
contributed to this program.
This program was started by a Canadian Peace Keeper who lost his life while
attempting to remove live land mines. We collect them from volunteers in our
community and surrounding areas and send them to Ottawa for disbursement to
children who are living in war torn countries or countries that are suffering from
natural disasters. They are made small enough so that soldiers can carry one in their
pockets and can bring some comfort to the children they encounter. In Vegreville
we were asked to keep some dolls in our community to be dispersed through our
local RCMP and Emergency Services. We hold a small portion back from each
collection if they are needed here.
Over 200 Izzy Dolls being shipped to Edmonton, then to Ottawa for disbursement to children where ever needed.
